Our Hofstede's Dimension'S in the UAE ^.^

The UAE has witnessed a lot of changes during it's growth. Here we are going to discuss Hofstede's basic dimensions of culture from the UAE's aspect.

1.power distance: The extent to which the less powerful members within a society accept - even expect- that power is unevenly distributed.
UAE is a large power distance country. It is less concerned with equality. respecting authorities is very important. A woman should also respect her husband.lower ranks should respect higher ranks.

It is very important to consider this point in advertising. Respect for the elder and authority should not be overlooked.

2.Individualism-Collectivism: Individuals are identified by group allegiance and role.Groups are established, strong, and cohesive – You don’t just choose which group to join

UAE is a collectivist country where harmony within the group and among members is very important. It is "We-oriented". It is very important to consider this point that the group and dependence of members on one another is very important.

3.Masculinity-Femininity: Masculinity is associated with assertiveness and femininity is associated with modesty and nurturing.
UAE is a highly masculine culture. standing out in a crowd and higher social status is very important.

4.Uncertainty Avoidance: The extent to which people feel threatened by uncertainty and ambiguity and try to avoid these situations.
UAE has a high level of uncertainty avoidance and people are somehow skeptical of unpredictable situations.

5.Long-Term vs Short-Term orientation:reflects the importance of time.
Being on time and considering time very important is not a part of this culture. It is contrary to United States and Europe. People have a short-term orientation of time here.

Innovations ?!?

I Don't personally agree with the US Innovation scale that was viewed in our class today. Though the innovation line was clear still i don't believe that it was that accurate. The united states has always been open towards adaptation; one of the reasons why is she in the top rank now. based on that fact saying that the states has these specific percentages in each stage is not quite fair !!

Assignment I: The Apple Experience

The experience:

In order to have a successful, rather a relevant association network we had to include an important factor which is research. Before starting our research we pointed out the important features we want out participants to have. It’s very important to illustrate both the Demographics and Psychographics of our survey contributors. We found 10 members included in the age range of 18-21, in which 5 of them were males and the other 5 were females. After covering the demographics part, the psychographics aspect started to show after we asked the fallowing: “What is the 1 word that comes to your mind when I say Apple.” Of course, we meant apple, the brand produced by MAC. At the beginning the target audience didn’t understand what do we mean by apple weather we are talking about the fruit or we are talking about the brand. The reactions were amazing and somehow expected. Moreover, we benefited from the book, Global Marketing and Advertising, through understating how to conduct a successful association network after gathering all the elements. Finally, using both the programmes Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator our Association Network was created.

Assignment I: Association Network !!

Assignment I: The Team WORK !!

The team work was such a great experience for the three of us. it was so smooth and beneficial because we managed to find our common interest points.

Bahar, Ferdos and Walaa looked at this work form a serious but a fun way as well. They had so much fun in this experience. Starting from the time they had to brainstorm what they are going to do to presenting their total work. In their first meeting they all showed up reading the guide page that was in the book. Later, they started thinking of the public: Whom do they want to target, where, and when.

Based on that they realized how helpful this can be in establishing their Association Network, and most importantly how effective is it in motivating them towards thinking of how their local public perceived their brand.

In conclusion, the team work was very effective and enjoyable. Each did her part within the period and all parties produced an amazing association network.
